U.S.-Based Occupational Health Courses

The UIC School of Public Health's Great Lakes Center for Occupational Health and Safety serves as a resource on occupational health and safety issues for students, professionals and community members. Programs support the goals and objectives of the NIOSH Training Grants Program and the WHO Global Plan of Action on Workers’ Health 2008-2017. Recognizing that there are limited resources, we partner with other programs engaged in education and training, respond to needs especially in under served populations, and make education, training and technical materials widely available through web-based initiatives such as the GeoLibrary.

The Center offers training for healthcare professionals, industrial hygienists, occupational safety engineers, paraprofessionals, domestic workers and other occupational and safety professionals.

Continuing education courses include:

  • Workplace sexual violence prevention
  • Grain bin handling safety
  • Radon mitigation
  • Job safety for domestic workers
  • NIOSH-approved spirometry
  • Green cleaning
  • Many more!

The target audience includes anyone who will benefit from training directly, indirectly, or globally including employers, health and safety experts, employees, government agencies and communities, consistent with the NIOSH definition of customer.
